I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom It is my personal approach that creates the climate It is my daily mood that makes the weather As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous I can be a tool of torture, or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humour, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanised or de-humanised. | Haim Ginott 1972 | ...before I try to teach you I must first reach you | Anon | As anyone at Trosnant knows I am a great one for thoughts; I believe that the two you have just read are key to why I am a teacher, headteacher and why Trosnant is as it is. Like you, I want the best for your child; I really want your child to be excited by learning; to have a real love of learning. Yes I want them to have good basic skills because without them many doors will be locked for them. As well as basic skills I want them to be able to recognise their strengths and talents whatever they are, as well as to nurture areas which need more support. To open their eyes to the world around them and beyond them. More importantly to enjoy coming to school. If you want to see this Love of Learning in action please feel free to come and visit us. | | Barry M. Harwood | | Headteacher |
